Children & Youth

We believe it is vital for children to have a strong foundation of faith as they grow. In addition to our Children & Youth Sunday School classes, listed on the Christian Education page, we welcome your participation in the following:

Nursery Programs

Allow our trained staff care for your child(ren) while you are in Worship and Sunday School.
(Children aged newborn to 3 years)

The nursery is open Sunday mornings from 8:00 am to noon. It is located just outside the Sanctuary, and has a sound system where your children can still hear the service. We also try to have the nursery available during other functions on campus; contact the office if you want to check availability for these times.

All nursery employees have completed a background check and participate in regular training.

Children's Programs

Vacation Bible School
Every summer, for one special week in June, elementary aged students are invited to attend a special program of fun activities, music, crafts, and Bible adventures. The week usually ends with a special program on Sunday. All children are welcomed!

Youth

Middle and High School youth together form a youth group called C2 (C-squared), or Called to Christ. The purpose of our youth ministries is to encourage students to grow in their understanding of who God is and what that means to their lives. There are weekly meetings, Bible studies, small and large group discussions, special events such as service projects, and, and, and... sometimes serious, sometimes a whole lot of fun! Youth meet on Sunday nights, 5:00 - 7:00 pm in the Youth Apartment.

Confirmation
Confirmation is an opportunity for middle school students to explore and learn more about what it means to be a United Methodist Christian and how to live out that faith. There is a special program, usually in the Spring, with group meetings, one-on-one sessions with adult mentors, as well as special activities and often a field trip. If you have any questions, please contact the church office.

Summer Camp

Every summer, students entering grades 4 thru 12 are invited to go to summer camp at the Warren Willis United Methodist Camp in Fruitland Park, Florida. Campers canoe, sail, play field games, use the ropes course, as well as have daily praise and worship, morning devotions, evening chapel and small group sessions. Visit the Warren Willis Methodist Youth Camp website to learn more about summer camp.

Scholarship Program

Youth starting college as well as those going back for another year may be eligible for a scholarship program if they are members of First UMC Tavares and maintain a certain grade-point-average. Full- and part-time students are eligible. Contact the church office for more information.
