I just wanted to reach out and thank you for your support and give you a little update on
how you're making an impact in the lives of the children and families in our care. As we
go about the day-to-day activities of caring for the children, their safety as well as the
safety of our staff remains paramount. While we greatly miss our volunteers, we
continue to keep them off campus for the foreseeable future. We're continuing to
practice social distancing and our staff is utilizing technology to hold virtual meetings
online. Everyone coming onto either campus is screened and checked for a fever.
The school year is wrapping up next week, and our Recreation Department has
planned a pool party to celebrate. There are five young people who have earned their high school diploma and will be graduating. A small graduation ceremony is being planned for them in our Chapel.
Children are beginning to be able to go off campus in a limited way, spending time
at local parks and beaches while avoiding retail areas like malls. Our Heart & Home
Resale Shop has reopened and has special hours just for the children if they wish to
Our Independent Living program has been reaching out to alumni of the Children's
Home, making sure they have the resources they need in these uncertain times. This
assistance ranges from help with housing, food and utilities assistance, to guidance as
they pursue their education in college or trade school.
Despite the difficulties presented by COVID-19, we remain true to our mission as
children continue to come to us for help. Your support makes the mission possible, and
makes an impact on the young lives that need it. Young lives like Kasey, who with the
help of her house parent, was recently able to cook her first entire meal. She
made baked chicken, broccoli with cheese sauce, and yellow rice. Kasey is a young
teen who came from an abusive situation, one where regular meals were not the norm.
She was very proud of her cooking, and it really boosted her self-worth as well.
Thank you again for your support and continued prayers, and I hope you and your
family remain safe.
